Introducing "renewable energy" and "assorted energy-saving devices" in stores with an eye to achieving carbon neutrality

Introduction of renewable energy

As part of initiatives to promote local electricity production and consumption, solar power generation panels have been installed at more than 9,000 Seven & i Group stores (*1). Furthermore, as a cross-corporate initiative, we signed off-site PPAs (*2) with the NTT Group to have renewable energy generated in different locations delivered to our stores. A dedicated renewable energy power plant was set up in Chiba Prefecture and began supplying power to 41 7-Eleven stores (*3) in June 2021. From January 2022, we also initiated the supply of renewable energy to the Ario Kameari shopping mall, bet365 日本 語re conducting store operations using 100% renewable energy (*4).
The sourcing of renewable energy has expanded to areas such as the Hokuriku region, and these initiatives have resulted in a yearly reduction of approximately 70,000 tons of CO2 emissions (*5).

※2An off-site PPA, short for “Off-site Corporate Power Purchase Agreement”, is a model for transmitting electricity from distant power generation facilities to consumer facilities through the power distribution network.

※3As of the end of February 2022.

※4Through off-site PPAs and the utilization of electricity from green power generation facilities owned by the NTT Group, 100% renewable energy consumption is achieved.

Seven-Eleven Challenge

Seven-Eleven has been conducting a series of demonstrative experiments with the aim of creating stores that would make it possible to attain the Seven & i Group’s CO2 emission reduction targets of 50% (*5) bet365 日本 語30 and virtually zero emissions bet365 日本 語50 throughout the entire Group. In some stores where we introduced large-capacity solar panels, multi-layered glass windows, and freezing/refrigerating cases with sliding filters that make it easier to clean them, all of which were found to be effective in the course of the experiments, we saw a 50% reduction of CO2 per 7-Eleven stores in FY 2013. We plan to install these energy-saving devices in new and refurbished stores (*6) as a way to further reduce CO2 emissions.

※5Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions associated with store operations by 50% compared to FY 2013 emissions.

※6Installation may not be possible in all stores.
